The application only appears as an icon in the system tray so it will not interfere with your work. Since "day one ", my system had the check box to "Always show all icons and notifications on the taskbar" selected. Or the critical updates waiting for you to reboot on your shutdown button. Check This Out or rather, a programming error which assumes certain things about your installation.
I have to manually open windows update rather than clicking on the icon. I reckon MSFT has done this deliberately, so as to trick the sheeple into mindlessly assuming the W10 icon is now the update icon. Regarding the W10 rollout updates and the W7 (& 8.1?) WU notification issues that appear to affect numerous machines, my guess is that the notification issue is a result of unintended consequences I create an image (Ghost) of my system, once a month and usually have 6-8 to choose from before the oldest gets replaced by the newest.
