I disabled it in Device Manager and the problem vanished. event viewer did not tell me anything and anti-virus, malware scans showed nothing....this is a lifesaver. Seems to act as if ok shutdown.The patch you used may have been the "disable fast shutdown 2 sec delay" patch, seen installed in msconfig-advanced.I have seen, and may still have, I contacted microsoft and (understandably) they won't/can't help with the problem. So if you have any active notes and or are running 7-zip or other freeware, try turning them off or deleting or uninstaalling those first. You may need to restart to install the updates.
