My Windows 8.1 key generated the 3V66T key, and my two Windows 7 devices resulted in thet 6MT6Y key. However... Apparently, if you upgraded from a Windows 7/8.x retail edition to Windows 10, you will be able to transfer that license from the old computer to the new one. his comment is here
That capability was removed in later Vista releases, and I would expect Windows 7 will be more rigid about the rules. Will I need a Microsoft account to "store" the Windows 10 keys after the upgrade (for future rebuilds) or can I continue avoiding using a MS account? EDIT 4: It is a generic key.

Windows Apps - dedicated to Windows10 UWP apps. In my SMB, we have almost exclusively OEM Windows 7 Pro licenses that came with the computers.
