I discovered quite at random that if I press hard on the case on the speaker grilles to either side of the affected row (QWERTYUIOP), it starts working again. Not the answer you're looking for? One thing i forgot to mention was that i lost power suddenly to my laptop an hour or so before the fault occurred due to a power-outage. Can't thank you enough.
