The OP's speed issues are most likely due to the IDE interface and windows7 treating it as "backward compatibility" in a SATA world. The window then refreshes and the "DMA enabled" box is unchecked again, so it looks like I cannot change it from there. Earlier, when a program I use to catalogue my CDs/DVD's took something like 1 hour 20 minutes to read all the data of about 4gb on a DVD, but now it WTH?

If you see any in PIO mode, that can slow things down. Sambient usb/eSata PATA/Sata II, III external enclosure. . But I would probably uninstall the channel and reboot and see if that changes it. DMA is much faster.
