Hopefully someone can find something in there. Rarely used elsewhere. Had this issue on Windows 7 first, then upgraded to Windows 8/8.1 and it resolved itself. Everytime your GPU tried to draw more power then what the PSU can give will cause your drivers to crash and BSOD. heck ive even gone as far as claiming that its all part of the windows conspiracy to force upgrade to latest version.. Since updating the firmware and installing a load of updates (not to mention removing all of those problem drivers and apps), things are better.

I'm encountering the same issues as you, including the occasional bad pool header. Or Chrome will go unresponsive but Task Manager will still work. My bet is that it's thermal paste is all dried up and the thing is overheating. Ask ! I left it on all day and night, but after 15 or 20 hours it finally got through the "checking for updates" phase and found those updates.
